Overview

The Sacramento Central Groundwater Authority (SCGA) participates in implementing California’s Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA) within the South American Subbasin (SASb). SCGA’s mission is to protect and manage groundwater resources to support long-term sustainability, community well-being, and environmental resilience.

Groundwater in the basin is managed collaboratively by multiple Groundwater Sustainability Agencies (GSAs). These agencies work together under a basin-wide Groundwater Sustainability Plan (GSP) and coordinate through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to ensure groundwater resources are managed sustainably for communities, agriculture, businesses, and ecosystems.

The SASB GSP was approved by the California Department of Water Resources (DWR) and establishes the framework for sustainable groundwater management through monitoring, projects, and coordinated management actions.
