SGMA and GSP

In response to California’s landmark Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA), SCGA was designated as the Groundwater Sustainability Agency (GSA) for the South American Subbasin (SASb). This section dives into the story of SGMA and how SCGA has stepped up to develop and implement a locally driven Groundwater Sustainability Plan (GSP). You’ll find plain-language overviews and access to the full plan, its appendices, and annual updates—detailing how SCGA is balancing water use with recharge, protecting groundwater quality, and planning for future drought and climate shifts. Groundwater is a shared resource, and SGMA challenges us to think long-term. Here, we outline the strategic vision, technical data, and community values guiding our path to sustainability.
